HBA chapter: HBA Boston
Current role with the HBA: VP, volunteer experience
I volunteer for the United Force for Change because there is an enormous opportunity to improve healthcare and quality of life at all socio-economic levels as technology and regulations evolve.
Volunteering has impacted my career by meeting thought leaders with a passion and vision for healthcare and life sciences.
My favorite HBA event I ever attended was the Men as Allies event hosted by the HBA Southwest region last year. The speakers shared some great insights. A few key points from the discussion:
- invite men to the table to get them engaged
- be open to their questions
- provide grace when mistakes may be made
The panel also encouraged companies to create internal networks that support men as allies. The discussion provided a great reminder to everyone to be yourself and be authentic in these situations.
Volunteering has expanded my network by being involved with enthusiastic leaders.
I first got involved with the HBA when I began to focus on healthcare and life sciences as a vertical industry during the early stages of COVID. I applied for my current role with the HBA because our volunteer leader, Christine McInnis, is a dynamo. She recently won the LEAD award and dealing with Christine on a regular basis makes you understand why she won it.
I first learned about the HBA through researching healthcare-related organizations with reach, impact and a great track record.
What would be your advice to someone thinking about joining or getting more involved with the HBA? Do it!
Anything else you would like to share? Don’t be afraid to tout the HBA to others; on social media and in different parts of the country (and world). Doing this motivated our healthcare practice lead Dr. Marcie Stoshak-Chavez to provide an HBA session on the use of virtual reality in patient care.
