Dear HBA Metro chapter members,
My name is Megan Montgomery and I am honored to be your HBA 2014 Metro chapter president.
I hope everyone had a fantastic time over the holiday and New Year’s season. Now it is time to continue that spirit of celebration as we have so much to celebrate this year. It is the 35th anniversary of the HBA and the 25th anniversary of the HBA Woman of the Year event. Although the HBA was founded in this area, Metro did not become a formal chapter until 2004, making this year our 10th anniversary.
As the years change, I know many of us have undergone change as well, both personally and professionally. That is why we have selected “Thriving During Transition and Transformation” as our 2014 programming theme. The healthcare industry is changing at a rapid pace. People are often transitioning jobs due to mergers and acquisitions, cost-savings driven layoffs, or wanting to pursue new opportunities. Companies continue to transform their business models to stay competitive and best serve their customers and I know I don’t need to inform this audience that even the US healthcare system is transforming with the implementation of the ACA. In the midst of all this transformation, our members would like to excel in their careers while staying healthy and enjoying their personal lives.
The programs for the HBA Metro chapter in 2014 are all designed around giving our members the skills, content and practical advice to stay relevant, competitive and to allow them to thrive. One example of this is our January 15th event at Ernst and Young in Stamford, CT. This event, called The Scientific Edge, will address changing from a technical to management career path. We are also currently working on events looking at how professional coaching can increase your effectiveness; the “Affordable Care Act: 6 months later” discussing the impact of ACA on hospitals, physicians, payers, and phama companies; a workshop on age-appropriate interview and work attire; and many other exciting events. We will have a strong mix of business acumen, leadership development and networking events.
For our 10th anniversary celebration, we are planning a special program reflecting on how our HBA Metro chapter members have developed their careers utilizing HBA resources and will celebrate those successes. In addition to evening programs, the HBA Metro chapter has a robust mentoring program, webinars and for executive women, the Executive Women’s Breakfast series and Circle of Advisors peer-mentoring program.
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at events throughout the year and gathering your direct feedback on how we can continue to provide value to you as a member of this outstanding professional organization. I know that I have gained innumerable benefits from my involvement with the HBA but the one I am most grateful for is the network I have developed that includes some amazing women and men (we do have those at HBA too) who have mentored me, coached me, supported me and contributed immensely to my development. These relationships were formed through volunteering with the HBA and if you are not currently a volunteer with the HBA, I encourage you to raise your hand and get involved in 2014. It’s a great opportunity to not only learn new skills, but to develop strong relationships and get the most out of your HBA experience.
