Message from the HBA Northern Chicago Chapter Board

A New Year – Happy 2019 HBA Northern Chicago.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of starting a new year? Are you filled with excitement for new possibilities, new beginnings, a fresh start, or possibly a do-over? Do you recall memories of buying new pencils and notebooks for that college course and pausing in the moment of that new school supply smell? Does that same emotion return when you open a new notebook today? What does the new year mean to you? Are you pausing to take a moment and reflect on how you are going to tackle this year ahead of you? Okay, I’ll dial my enthusiasm back a smidge and ask what are you going to do to tackle this day in front of you?

I would say that you are either bravely starting off your day, or courageously pausing in the middle of your day, or possibly ending your day taking a moment to do something for you. You took a few minutes to read this email and catch up with your HBA chapter, networks and friends (some might be wondering if this was still a good choice and wondering if there is a point to this note…. Yes, there is… bear with me) In other words, I’m glad that you are reading this note, preparing to start your 2019 year and that you are tackling this new year with the HBA and HBA Northern Chicago. I’m excited to start this new year with you and tackle one new endeavor as your 2019 HBA Northern Chicago president. I’m thrilled to be continuing on with the fabulously inspiring women of the executive and chapter board to continue our collective work and journey on the advancement and impact of women in the business of healthcare through our unique HBA networks, programming, advocacy, and partnerships within the Chicago community. We have a fabulous HBA chapter and what makes our chapter so unique is you, our members, our volunteers and our friends of the HBA. Our members and volunteers are the essential component to the success of our chapter, community and mission. I’m so very glad that you decided to start off this January with the HBA and taking the moment to read this note. You will be hearing more about our theme and focus for 2019, but for now, on behalf of the HBA Northern Chicago chapter board, we wanted to share with you that our focus will be on you, our members.

As I start this year, I’d like to hear from you. Share with me your HBA experience to date, what inspires you about being a member of the HBA? What is missing or could be improved? What does your HBA membership mean to you? How would you like to give back? Have you wondered what it would be like to volunteer with the HBA, but don’t know where to start? I welcome you to contact me and share your ideas, thoughts and feedback. Please email me -  I’d love to start a conversation with you.

I wish you all a wonderful start to your 2019 year. As you tackle this new year ahead of you, your HBA Northern Chicago chapter board is here with you. Here’s to seizing the moment, investing in yourself and taking a chance. I look forward to seeing you at our first HBA event of the year, hosted by Baxter, on 17 January: Digital Health: A Driving Force for New Solutions and Engagement Across the Health Continuum.
