The Value of Membership
In a city as increasingly sprawling as Kansas City, it can be challenging to meet other women in healthcare. From St. Joseph to JoCo, Lee’s Summit to Leawood, Overland Park to Olathe — the HBA makes it easy to meet and network with professional women in the greater KC area.
Here’s a breakdown of the types of industry sectors you can count on to be in your network as a member of HBA Kansas City:
- 57% biotechs/pharmaceuticals
- 10% industry service
- 6% consulting
- 3% life sciences
- 3% medical devices
- 21% other
After 17 years with a major pharma employer in Kansas City, membership in HBA KC gave president Kris Cappo the confidence and connections she needed to land her next job.
“It was scary to think of looking for another job, but my involvement with the HBA gave me the confidence to reach out to my network when I was ready to start looking for a new position. When it came time to interview, I felt like my leadership experience with the HBA helped differentiate me from other potential candidates.”
- Kris Cappo, president & founding member, HBA Kansas City
For current members, the HBA recently rolled out an exciting new membership auto-renewal option. Those who sign up for this new feature will receive a free HBA swag gift. Simply log into your HBA profile and click “membership auto-renewal” on the left side of the page. Now there’s nothing to do but enjoy your membership.
What’s the best way to get the most out of your HBA membership? Become a volunteer. According to a recent survey, 93% of HBA volunteer leaders say their HBA involvement has impacted their career progression.
“Volunteering with HBA Kansas City has given me the opportunity to work with inspiring women in healthcare across my city who I never would have encountered previously. I’ve enjoyed applying my skills from the communications field toward supporting marketing for this great chapter.”
- Carolyn Sobczyk, marketing volunteer, HBA Kansas City
